Team Parent Responsibilities

Team Parent Responsibilities

The primary role of a team parent is to help the manager with non-coaching, non-practice logistics. This frees up the coach to focus on coaching, which results in the players receiving more and better training. It also helps with coach retention from season to season.

Pre-Season Logistics

  • One of the first actions a team parent should do is make sure that all parents are in the GameChanger app since this is how you will communicate. Make sure all parents can drop a message in the group chat and ask them to turn on notifications. This will be extremely helpful for the parents since GameChanger has the official schedule, which will update as needed throughout the season.
  • Sponsors need to be obtained soon after teams are formed. The sponsorship information can be found here. If your team cannot find a sponsor, the cost of the sponsor may be split among the players’ families.
  • Every team needs a safety officer. The safety officers should familiarize themselves with the information listed on the website here.

Game Day Duties

  • The game day duties differ depending on if your team is home or away or if you are playing on WSLLL fields or opposing Little League fields.
  • For interleague games, WSLLL parents should cover all responsibilities for games held at WSLLL. For games held at an opposing Little League, we will let the opposing Little League cover all game day responsibilities except for GameChanger.
  • Finding a parent to manage GameChanger is essential since you cannot start the games without someone keeping the book. It does require some knowledge of baseball. It is best to identify this person as soon as possible. Note: GameChanger is not required for T-Ball or CPA.
  • Most of the other game day roles can be assigned randomly and don’t require any specific skill set. Once the schedule for the season is posted, you can go ahead and assign the roles.
  • Rather than asking parents to sign up for specific game day duties, it is typically easiest to assign the roles and dates randomly and send them out to the team before the season starts. Parents can work together to swap out roles/dates if they need to do so. Before each game, drop the list of assigned duties into the group chat as a reminder to the parents.
